This piece is built from multiple layers of transparent glazes and interesting mark making methods, allowing for a rich surface and intriguing depth - much more apparent in real life than the photo can show.

My work is based around themes of water and flow; my key inspiration is the ocean.

Floating or swimming makes me feel joyful and alive. I often wonder if this is why it’s so easy for me to tap into a flow state when I paint as I did with this piece.

After winning the Emerging Art Prize in March 2023 with a monochrome piece, Santorini Night Swim, I began further explorations in painting with monochrome colour palettes.

The pieces in this collection are created with expressive mark making and text, overlaid with multiple transparent glazes until I achieve a beautiful depth in colour.
There are actually many colours in each piece, however the final appearance is of a monochrome painting, because of the way I have structured the glazes.
